G.A.P. Stands For
Growers, Artisans, and Producers
A few of years ago the City of Charles Town, West Virginia approached the Charles Town Farmers Market steering committee about starting an indoor version of our popular street market. After much discussion and many brainstorming sessions, we settled on the idea of The Jefferson Growers, Artisans and Producers Coalition, Inc., an umbrella non-profit to oversee the seasonal street market, its sister grocery store, Bushel and Peck, and to give structure to potential future endeavors, both immediate and yet unrealized, that might enhance our goals.
Formed in late 2016, The Jefferson G.A.P. Coalition, Inc. (GAP) had three main goals…
- To provide area farmers, artisans, musicians, and other non-profits with alternative marketing opportunities through a retail marketplace, as well as to encourage agriculture and cultural entrepreneurship in the region.
- To provide consumers with fresh, locally/regionally grown or locally/regionally produced products in a convenient location.
- To provide reoccurring community gathering opportunities to enhance and promote community awareness, cooperation, and cultural unity.
