How Donations Are Used

Donations are used in a variety of ways. From special events and programs to equipment acquisition and volunteer appreciation to just keeping our markets going. Our business is to support local/regional small farms and business. We keep very little for ourselves. Help us help others. Every dollar counts.

Is Jefferson GAP Coalition a nonprofit?

Yes. The Jefferson Growers Artisans and Producers Coalition is a 501c (3).  We got our designation on June 1, 2017.

Why a nonprofit?

A nonprofit status allows us to do fundraisers and seek donations to support our market, outreach programs and expand our community efforts through education and other social programs.

Our number one goal is to get the money into the pockets of the local small farms and businesses so that they can continue to grow. We keep our prices and fees low to make sure more goes to them thereby allowing them to thrive in an ever increasingly competitive world.

Is my donation tax deductible?

Yes. Please check with your financial adviser about how this works. You can request a letter from GAP if your adviser needs it. Send email to

What is my donation used for?

Bushel & Peck:                                                    

  • Inventory expansion, building and maintaining new displays, equipment acquisition, and maintenance.

  • Advertising to a wider audience.

Can a student use volunteer time for school credit?

Yes, many students volunteer for the summer market and use this time for school community time credits. For more info please contact our market manager at

How much of a difference does GAP, CTFM and B&P really make?

In the eight years since CTFM was started, and with the addition of Bushel & Peck, over 1.5 million dollars have gone into the pockets of local and regional small farms and businesses creating an economic impact of over 4 million dollars for the Charles Town area. This is based on vendor sales and inventory acquisition.

Several vendors have gone on to open brick and mortar stores, expanded their growing seasons by adding high tunnels and greenhouses. Partnerships have been established. 

With special events throughout the year, we provide opportunities for young folks to learn about business, customer service and the value of good nutrition. We also provide a chance to meet the farmers and artisans that make this area so special. We educate the community on food identification and preparation. Give musicians a stage. Encourage entrepreneurship.  Give space for cultural development. 

These are just some of the things that an active and thriving market scene adds to a community.

Our number one priority is to get money into the pockets of our vendors so that they can succeed.
